After dogs, cats are the most loved pets all over the world. Around 50% of people in the United States have either dog or cat at their home. Everybody loves cats, but cat allergies are a very common phenomenon in humans. Studies have also shown that in the past there were over 10 million people had cats allergies, especially from their fur.

Dander is a dust which is produced by the cat’s body and is the main cause of allergies in them. Dander is nothing but a form of small flakes that comes out of shed skin of cats. It irritates your skin; it can affect your immune system and result in an allergic reactions. When the dander enters the immune system, it becomes quite dangerous. Though it is not categorized in the list of diseases, its main function is to reflex your body and your immune system and causes allergies in cats. The allergens are spread throughout the cat’s blood, urine and saliva. And even if the cat is not present, its excretions may cause problems.

When you have a cat at your home there are chances of cat dander, urine and saliva spreading all over the house. Cats have the habit of grooming themselves and rubbing their saliva into the fur as part of grooming and thus the dander spreads all over the house. Even though you give bath to the cat daily, it is the natural tendency of the cat to keep themselves clean in their own way and you cannot stop them from grooming themselves.

If you are allergic to cats, you may wheeze, sneeze or have an itching sensation, watery eyes and may get breathing trouble. These reactions may be different in various people and sometimes you may not get these symptoms at all. Symptoms such as fever and chills rarely occur. And if you find someone with these symptoms, it is better to contact the doctor immediately. Doctors are the right people to consult if the symptoms are due to allergic reactions or another diseases.

Antihistamines and decongestants are the common treatment used for cat allergies. Antihistamines are administered to the person who has asthma attacks or suffering from other allergies. And people suffering from coughs and swollen nasal passage are prescribed Decongestants.

At times, in order to prevent allergy attacks, allergy shots are recommended. These allergic shots are recommended to people who are really allergic to cats. These medications are very effective in cat allergies and can decrease the risk of allergy affects in an individual.

If you see any of the symptoms and feel that you are becoming allergic, you should immediately book an appointment with your doctor. He is the right person to diagnose the disease and treat you in the best possible way. If you don’t want to suffer from cat allergies, getting rid of cats is the best solution.

Everyone on this earth loves cats whether he is an adult or kid and they love the quiet and playful nature of the pets or cats. Children love to play with the cats and entertain themselves. Though we all live cats, it vanishes when you have to clean the litter from the litter box. Even the person who loves the cats very much does not like the litter box duty. Cats are quite intelligent and know the use of litter box. When the cat finishes using the litter box, someone from the family has to clean the litter box by scooping the waste and can be a dirty and smelly job, which is not taken into consideration.

It takes just a few minutes to clean the litter box, though most of the cat owners do not want to do this job. The litter box has to be scooped daily and the current bag should thrown out and replacing a new bag for fresh litter.

The self cleaning litter box is boon to the individuals who do not want to scoop the litter. These self cleaning litter boxes are easy to use and help to keep the area clean. When the cat finishes using the litter box, the box automatically cleans the litter by shifting or a device resembling a rake.

The self cleaning box that uses shifting to clean the litter box has a round design and revolves by itself. Then the litter is shifted and is kept below where it has to be discarded. And once when the waster is disposed properly, the litter box comes back in the normal position and can be used again.

Boxes having raking systems have a rectangular design. When the cat leaves the box, the rake automatically comes out and cleans the litter. Though the rake litter boxes are famous, the shifting litter boxes are more famous compared to rake litter box.

If you have to leave the house with your cat alone, these self cleaning litter boxes are very helpful. These litter boxes scoop and clean the litter. You can easily get these boxes at a shop near to your place or you can just order it online.

These are quite affordable and ideal for individuals who do not like to scoop the cast of the litter box.

Like bad breath in humans, cat also suffer from bad breath and can be awful. Bacteria found in the mouth is the main cause of bad breath in human as well as cat as the mouth breaks proteins down and releases sulfur compounds and mixes in the air.

As sulphur smells very bad itself, breathe containing this sulfur smells even worse. The bacteria that cause bad breath in cats are due to the buildup of tartar around the teeth. The tartar is yellow in color and is commonly known as coating of bacteria, food and minerals.
So, in order to cure bad breath from your cat, the first thing you have to do is to remove the tartar buildup. There are various cat foods available in the market that is specially manufactured to reduce tartar buildup.

There are many enzymes in the product that makes the tartar dissolve. Reward the cat with his favorite food if he takes the treatment and prevent tartar. If the tartar is tough and bad you can get it professionally cleaned. And once the tartar is removed, the cat can be relieved of bad breath.

Cleaning the tartar from the cat’s teeth is also possible at home. You can find numerous toothpastes available in the pet’s store in different flavors that can be loved by your cat. You can use a mechanical toothbrush as the movement of the toothbrush plays an important role in removing the tartar. Enzymes containing toothpastes easily dissolves the tartar and helps in curing the bad breath. You can easily destroy the tartar build up that leads to bad breath if you start brushing your cat’s teeth at the earliest.

Take care when you feed your cat, as there are various bacteria found in the food that causes tartar build up, therefore whenever you feed your cat; make sure that the food does not contain more bacteria. Try to feed your cat with healthy foods made at home or available in the market to prevent bad breath.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that, whenever you treat your pet makes sure that the treat is helps in eradicating the tartar. Like human beings, brush your cat’s teeth whenever he has finished with his eating or at least rinse his mouth. By doing this you can help the bacteria come out of the mouth before it build up on the teeth.

Many a times, tartar is not the only reason of bad breath. Hence, you should make sure about the bad breath as it can be an indication of either liver or kidney disease. If you notice the problem is not due to tartar, it is essential to visit your veterinary doctor.

It is always better to consult a veterinary even if the bad breath is due to tartar, leave it on the veterinary, as he is the correct person to diagnose the problem and can suggest you the remedy. So, never sit back if your cat has the problem of bad breath.

You may be surprised to discover that health problems are also common among cats especially if you are new into the hobby of owning a cat. Expect problems when you get a cat whatever the breed. While hereditary issues might be the reason of some health problems, others are easily prevented.

1. Worms
Worms are very common and recurring problem among cats of whatever breed. Cats are easily infected by tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms among others. If you see your cat gaining weight or having problems with fleas and white specks in his stool, have your cat tested by your vet for worms. Worms can be fatal if left untreated though medicine can easily cure them.

2. Hairballs
Another common health problem of cats is hairballs. All cats clean themselves regularly and end up swallowing their loose hair from their coats. Sometimes, loose hair if swallowed will gather into balls which will lodge in the digestive tract instead of going to the stool. Coughing and hacking are symptoms that your cat is developing hairballs. This should not worry us much though because cats can normally remove the hairball without causing any problem at all.

Although this can happen rarely, hairballs can pass through to the intestines of the cat which will cause blockage. This should be enough to worry you concerning the health situation of the cat because hairballs can turn out to be life threatening if not treated. If your cat shows signs of constipation, eating is irregular, and has dull coat, most probably the cat has blockage. Take him to the vet right away if these symptoms are present. Brush the hair of your cat 2 to 3 times every week to remove loose hair and prevent hairballs and blockages. There are also food intended to control hairballs which you can use to feed your cat.

3. Urinary Tract Infection
Cats may also acquire urinary tract infections. Male cats are more prone to Urinary Tract Infection than female cats especially those that have not been neutered. If you observe that your cat not going to its litter box then this might be a sign that it has this sickness. Strong smell of cat’s urine is another possible symptom of the disease. It is only the vet who can treat your cat and give recommendations to prevent this disease from occurring later on.

4. Feline Leukemia
For many years from the past, the biggest cause of the mortality of cats is feline leukemia. With the discovery of vaccines that are available in the market, the disease can be easily treated today. In order to treat your cat, your cat needs to be given shots before exposing him. Cats exposed to feline leukemia though do not die immediately but their life span is shortened. Feline leukemia is a contagious disease therefore if your cat has this disease, keep other cats away from it.

Make sure to take your cat to the vet for his regular check up in order to protect him from the virus. In order for your cat to lead a healthy and productive life, vaccinations should be regularly done. Most health problems can be avoided, although there are some which you cannot.

In order to keep your cats healthy, keep them indoors. However, if your cat always outdoor, protect him by taking him regularly to the vet.
